The other evening I was walking my dogs through my neighborhood, contemplating how challenging and confusing it is to run for an elected office. I knew it would be hard and unlike anything I've ever experienced, but I underestimated how much of a total newbie (and salesperson!) I'd feel like in almost every interaction. Luckily, on this particular walk, I was blessed with exactly the reassurance I needed.
As we walked, I was treated to the sounds from my neighbor's basement while he was jamming out on his guitar, smelled the fresh asphalt as the road maintenance crew wrapped up for the day, heard a group of friends laughing and enjoying each other's company on their deck, and then bantered with a father out with his young daughter on her little balance bike, whose squeals of delight and the ding of the tiny bell on her handlebars stayed with me as I arrived back home feeling more grounded in my why.
All my neighbors should be able to go about their lives feeling safe and happy. They shouldn't have to be policy experts or be worried about how past, present, or future Broomfield decisions will make their lives worse. I want to live in a world where we trust our elected representatives to have our best interests at heart and have peace of mind that someone will have our back if an issue arises.
This job isn't about me, it's about you. You all deserve thoughtful, inquisitive leaders that will watch out for you, listen to you, fight for you, and cheer on both the amazing and mundane things you do every single day. Putting myself out there is uncomfortable, but it's a necessary part of getting name recognition and votes. As your councilperson, I'm committed to tapping the collective wisdom of this great place and building a resilient, caring, forward-thinking bubble of awesomeness where everyone feels at home.
